So Adobe Acrobat 9 is here, but what does it mean for your computer?
I’ve always been a fan of PDF and who here isn’t? They have 3 packages, standard, pro and extended. Let me quickly go over the new features:
- Adobe Presenter: Included in the extended version. You can add a lot of interactivity like video, voice-overs, interactive quizzes and a lot more.
- Unify content: You can basically put everything within a PDF file now, 3D, animation, graphics, text, audio and maps.
- Flash support: Native support for Flash technology means you can create a lot of interactivity and animation within your PDF’s, even applications and games.
- Better Excel & Word support: Convert documents and spreadsheets with automatic recognition and fillable fields.
- Adobe LiveCycle Designer ES: Included with the extended version. It’s a form designer tool to create custom XML forms. You can use form tracker to see when forms are completed and who did them.
So those are cool features, right? I especially like the form tracker so I can see who is interacting with my content. This could also be a great tool for designers and marketers to get instant feedback.
However, the bad thing about all these new features are that Adobe Acrobat will be even more bloated than before. It’s already slow to use, especially the reader. Even worse, it will add new “junk” to your registry when you update from version 8. This could cause serious harm to your computer.
Make sure that when you upgrade, even just test it that you always run a full registry scan and fix.
