Registry Easy has 5 buttons on the
opening screen: Scan & Clean, Backups, IE Tools, Optimize System
and System Tools. It also has options which is not part of the main 5.
Options:
Let's go to options first. Here you can select if its to run at Windows
startup, do automatic update check and most importantly it has a
scheduling feature so you can set it and forget it and it will scan
your registry automatically whenever you want. The only thing missing
is the automatic fix errors option, but we can't have everything.
Scan & Clean:
What is interesting about the main buttons is that each one has
submenus too. Scan & Clean has 4: Registry Cleaner, Evidence
Cleaner, Junk File Cleaner and Duplicate Cleaner. The registry cleaner
is self explanatory, it just scans the registry for errors which is the
main portion of the application. Evidence Cleaner does what it says. It
basically clears your browser history settings and things like last
opened document in Word etc. Junk Cleaner scans and allows you to
remove temporary files that clog up the system, filling up the hard
drive. The duplicate cleaner searches your system for duplicate files
and allow you to remove unnecessary files that you might have 2 or 3
of. It has filters for pictures and music etc. All in all very good
features to have.
Backup:
This allows you to take a backup of your registry and create a system
restore point in XP or Vista. This is highly recommended before you do
anything. When I tried to click the System Restore button it just gave
me an error: Class not registered. It's just because I have System
Restore disabled (By the way, this is NOT recommended that you do, but
for my use it is)
IE Tools:
It has 2 choices, BHO Manager and IE Restore. BHO Manager allows you to
simply enable or disable plugins in Internet Explorer which might come
in handy if you experience some problems with a certain plugin you
might have. IE Restore allows you to fix Internet Explorer and claims
that it can make it run faster. It did not make mine run faster though,
but I suppose it does something.
Optimize System:
Ok at this point you have already forgotten that it is a registry
cleaner because under Optimize System it has 5 choices: System
Optimizer, Block ActiveX, Error Utilities, Register ActiveX, Tweak
Memory. System Optimizer does what it says on the tin. Block ActiveX
protects your system for intruders by disabling ActiveX which is
possibly the hackers choice nr.1 for vulnerability. Error Utilities
supposedly fix system errors preventing you getting a blue screen etc.
Register ActiveX claims the re-registering ActiveX will solve a lot of
system crashes etc. and make your system stable. Tweak Memory allows
you to recover lost memory and tweak the system for better performance.
System Tools:
It has 2 system tools: Startup Manager & Uninstall Manager. Startup
Manager allows you to control what starts up when Windows load and
Uninstall Manager allows you to safely uninstall applications. The
Uninstall Manager didn't work for me, giving me error: Invalid Data
Type for 'DisplayIcon'.
Summary:
If you want an application that does "everything" then this is it. It
is the Swiss army knife of registry cleaners. So how good is it in
cleaning the registry? Well it found 3657 errors in about 16
minutes. That means it is the second best Registry cleaner out there.
